In Lunigiana, among villas and prestigious farmhouses for sale, we discover the ancient Stele Statues
Tuscany - The Lunigiana and the Stele Statues
The Stele Statues, found in the territory of Lunigiana, represent the most ancient and mysterious heritage of this land, admired and studied today by many researchers eager to discover its secrets and history.
The Stele Statues, statues of various dimensions depicting male and female human figures represented in abstract forms, were carved in the sandstone from populations lived between the fourth and first millennium BC. These very ancient images are characterized by the head "hat of carabiniere" and the face in the shape of U. They were made between the age of copper and the age of iron and have gone through the centuries to reach us, suffering over time concealments volunteers, re-utilities and re-employs who have often changed their form and function. Today the Statues Stele are, to all intents and purposes, the symbol of the land of Lunigiana.
Here, in fact, some groupings of stele statues have been found, such as in Pontevecchio, where nine of them have been found, eight of them vertically fixed in the ground, aligned a short distance from each other with the face facing the sun (south ). Just a few km from the village of Pontevecchio, stands Casale La Rocca, an old stone manor house for sale, completely renovated, with beautiful garden and panoramic views of the valleys below.
Other probable groups of stele statues had to appear in the Selva di Filetto, where 11 statues were found and in Malgrate with 6 recovered stele statues, located near Villafranca in Lunigiana, a lively town, well positioned and easy to reach, only 1 km from the property L'Incontro Improvviso, an old Tuscan farmhouse for sale in 1800 perfectly restored stone, which enjoys an absolutely unique position, inserted within the large land owned, partly olive grove with 400 olive trees, in part in orchard, and partly in the woods, immersed in the peace and tranquility of a lush and uncontaminated nature.
Small groups are also identified in Minucciano, in the area of ??Monti di Licciana Nardi, Filattiera, Canossa, La Spezia where the monuments, often associated with collective burials, were arranged in alignment to remember ancient and never lost cultural traditions.
From all these elements comes a double interpretation of these megalithic monuments, both "sacred" and "profane". In one case the stele statues could have symbolic and abstract meanings, linked to the sphere of religious worship, and represent images of celestial deities, in the other they could depict living or deceased royal characters who, in any case, must have had an emerging social position at the community interior. The stele statues could represent images of protecting entities or real characters placed as landmarks or "guard" at the top of the villages, in hunting, transit or economic interest areas. The stele statues appear reflections of beliefs and probably of activities that pivoted on "superhuman" entities (in the sense of divinity), or at least "superhuman", that is, connected not to single men but to social or tribal groups with skills to acquire value and prestige.
Today we can admire these wonderful works collected within the Museum of Stele Statues, which since 1975 has housed within the picturesque setting of the Castello del Piagnaro, in the picturesque medieval town of Pontremoli.
