Christmas and economic upturn in Versilia: decorations, shopping, and luxury villas
This year’s Christmas will revolve around economic recovery decorating in style
After a shaky Christmas in 2020, with Italy being partitioned in different zones according to virus containment regulations, Italy can celebrate in grand style again. Some areas of Versilia have already lit their Christmas lights on 20 November, and many Christmas markets and events for children have been planned. Broker Immobiliare Exclusive Real Estate lists prestigious properties in Versilia, a renowned seaside location which, even though it strongly evokes the summer season, is still magical during the off season.
Versilia is well-known as a luxury tourist location, and therefore strongly evokes the summer season. However, Versilia doesn’t shut down in winter – far from it. Shops, restaurants, and luxury hotels attract both Italian and foreign tourists in winter as well. Furthermore, there is a sublime and charming Christmas atmosphere thanks to Christmas markets like the ones in South Tyrol, the historic centers’ festive lights, and the planned events.
This year, Forte dei Marmi lit its festive lights on 20 November. The Fiera di Natale (Christmas Fair) is making a comeback with its many stands and different kinds of merch for sale, such as modern and traditional decorations, handmade nativity sets, and typical food such as nougat and the classic Viennese Sacher cake, recreating a northern atmosphere. The Christmas spirit in Forte dei Marmi is unique. When the fair is set up, if one turns towards the white-capped Apuan Alps, they may get the impression of being in a small Swiss town. Last but not least, a towering Christmas tree is set up in front of the pier.
Viareggio is also decking the halls again. The promenade will have not one, but three Christmas trees. To bring the Christmas spirit to the promenade, the traditional sixteen-meter tree will be set up in Piazza Mazzini, as well as two other trees: one in front of the elegant Galliano bakery, and the other in Piazza Campioni near the pier. And that’s not all: as well as the traditional Christmas light strings strung across the promenade, the inner roads will be decorated with light spheres.
As well as the traditional fir tree and classic light strings, a Christmas market has been set up in the center of Pietrasanta, extending from the square in front of the theater to the park Giardino della Lumaca. The main street, Via di Mezzo, and parallel streets are streaks of intermittent golden and silver lights.
Versilia’s historic centers are perfect for Christmas shopping. Forte dei Marmi, Viareggio, and Pietrasanta have many designer and independent shops where to search for presents to put under your Christmas tree. Having typical pastries in a festively decorated bakery is a must-do.
