Enthusiast of this type of cuisine must taste the cacciucco, a soup typical to Livorno, made with different kinds of fish, mussels, and shellfish. There isn’t a lack of northern seafood, such as salted codfish and stockfish. Typical of northern seas, salted codfish is readapted to Mediterranean cuisine with the dish “baccalà alla livornese”. In Livorno, this is a typical dish for Christmas Eve feasts. The fish is fired and then cooked with tomatoes and garlic. It is often served with stewed potatoes.
